The literal meaning of ‘Gharana’ is a group of families having same kula, gotra and vamsha, and blood relation between them. Other than this, families having same profession are also considered as of same Gharana. ‘Gharana’ word is extremely important in the fields of Music and has its specific meaning too. For music persons – all those, who receive their training under the guidance of same Guru/Guru’s descendants, are known to be of same Gharana.
