ABOUT THE AUTHOR
TRADITIONAL EDUCATION
- First lessons of dance and music from her mother Smt. Manorama Vyas Jyotishi.
- Took informal training of Kathak and Vocal Music in ‘Guru Shishya Parampara’ from Late Guru Pandit Kalyandas Mahant of Raigarh Darbar during 1984-89.
- Took informal short intensive training of Bhava Abhinaya from Late Guru Ramakrishna Shukla of Hyderabad and from Nataraj Ramakrishna of Hyderabad.
- Has been engaged in taking intensive training of Kathak dance from Nrityacharya Ramlal Ji of Raigarh.
- Classical Vocal & Sugam Sangeet from Late Dr. Veena Vishwaroop & Shri Vasant Timothi, IKS University, Khairagarh.
- Had been associated with Late Prof. Premlata Sharma for more than ten years and acquired traditional learning of Hindustani Sangeet Shastra.
AWARDS
- Awarded Senior Fellowship of Ministry of Culture, Government of India for research on “Kathak Nritya ki Aitihasic Avadharana ka Punarmulyankan”.
TEACHING
- Taught Kathak to UG, PG and Diploma classes for 8 years in the Department of Kathak, IKS University, Khairagarh (First as research fellow and later as Guest faculty).
- Taught Kathak Dance to Faculty Members and UG, PG Students of University of Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo, Sri Lanka as a Consultant under the “Improving Relevance and Quality of Undergraduate Education (IRQUE) Project” of World Bank from 25 November 2008 to 06 February 2009.
- Conducted lectures series as a guest faculty at IKS University, Agartala University and Kathak Kendra.
- Conducted two workshops on Kathak at Mandla in 2000 and 2003, under sponsorship of Ustad Allauddin Khan Sangeet Academy, Bhopal.
- Conducted exhaustive workshops on practical aspects of Kathak in Raigarh Gharana in Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and at Agartala University.
ADMINISTRATION
- Worked as Principal, Mahishmati Kathak Kendra (an autonomous body of Mahishmati Sanskritik Punarjagaran Manch) Mandla, from 2000-04.
- Worked as Director, Kathak Kendra (an autonomous body of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi). 2009-13.
